Sport at St Breock

At St Breock our mission statement is ‘Standing Still is not an Option’ and we feel Physical Education has an important role to play in helping us to fulfil this statement. We have worked hard to provide high quality lessons and extra-curricular activities.

Our Curriculum
A wide range of PE is delivered to the pupils, which aims to engage and inspire all pupils. Lessons are taught by our Sports Coach and the class teacher, as well as external providers for blocks and one
off sessions.

Our extra-curricular programme is extensive and includes after school clubs, a leadership programme and intra-school and inter school competition. The majority of our after school clubs are run by our
committed teaching staff and are free of charge. Our current programme includes, girls’ football, cycling, netball, football, rowing, energy, target, read aloud, drumming, cookery, tag rugby and Go Ride.  We monitor participation and check attendance. Currently 130 of our 208 school population attend after school clubs. We target those not attending after school clubs in KS2 to encourage them to find alternative ways to develop healthy lifestyles. We also enter a variety of competitions with our school teams. Last academic year we made the County finals in the following; cricket, football, netball, cycling, indoor dry rowing, badminton and tennis!

Across KS2 we offer a leadership programme ‘Crew’, which is sponsored by Sainsbury’s. We intend to develop our leadership opportunities throughout the school. The Crew provide Lunchtime Active Challenges at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels.

We run Sports Leaders and Playmaker Awards to develop leadership skills with our oldest pupils.

2We are committed to finding a sport for every child and have developed a reward programme for the whole school called ‘Sport for All’ which aims to provide as many sporting activities to all children across the school. This is forty five minutes of streamed sports activity on a Friday afternoon. We have found this to not only improve sporting attainment but it has had an impact on behavior and attendance also.

We aim to utilize the area we live in to broaden the PE curriculum and offer mountain biking, cycling, sailing, gig rowing, and surfing.

Our school leads the PE Premium Agreement (PEPA) cluster group, involving seven local Primary schools. Our Sports Coach arranges a sporting calendar, which includes local competitions, County competitions and CPD for staff across the seven schools.

We are committed to high quality continual professional development for all our staff not just teachers. As this competency is developed we will be able to secure a sustainable change and improvement to benefit our children and their families. Please come and join us and enjoy a healthy active lifestyle with us.
